Synopsis for the cover of The Ultimate Game.

BEFORE
When a group of boys playing baseball make a gruesome discovery, FBI Special Agent Red Akers's world is drastically altered. The change begins when the President, an old acquaintance of Red's, wants his help in solving the mysterious death of an influential Senator.

The agent is required to drop the unfinished case he was working and leave the familiar surroundings of the open west to tackle the intrigue, murder, and political power of the nation's capital. Here his hard-hitting, call-it-as-he-sees-it, cowboy style of investigation runs head-on into the hostility of a very ambitious yet much more refined Agent Andrews, his new female partner.

The two agents discover the deadly trail has more twists and turns than a desert rattler. They also find that if you chase danger long enough, it finally has a way of catching up with you -- and what was just another case suddenly becomes personal.

AFTER
A gruesome discovery by some boys playing sandlot baseball drastically alters the world of FBI Special Agent Red Akers. A request to solve the mystery requires the agent to drop a case, leave the open West, and face the political intrigue of the nation's capital. Here his 'go with your gut feeling' style of investigation clashes with that of 'strictly by the book' Agent Andrews, his new female partner. The two discover the deadly trail has more twists and turns than a wounded rattler. And when you chase danger long enough it has a way of catching up to you, and what was just another case becomes deadly personal. This is a story you won't quickly forget!
